TB has been out of the public consciousness for decades. There's rise in the rate of infection and where the infections are located. Back in the late 90's and early 00's we heard about the drug resistant version.
Educating yourself on transmission and other issues surrounding the disease is not a means to scare yourself into seclusion....rather, a way to provide yourself with knowledge on what to do, when, and how. the old adage comes to mind, "Knowledge is Power".

TB is very transmissible. Sneezes and contact are the most common. Those of us in the Midwest are more insulated than down town New Yorkers due to the close proximity of people. Though, the risk is there if there were an outbreak.

Tuberculosis is staging a comeback in London, where some
neighborhoods suffer infection rates found in African countries in which the
disease is endemic. The number of cases surged 50 percent in the 10 years to
2009, according to a National Health Service agency.
